Resolving

How calls get resolved

When the date comes, someone says what happened and shows proof, everyone in the call gets a fixed time to disagree, and then it settles. Nobody who picked a side gets the final say on their own.

The three kinds of call

You choose one when you post, and it decides who says what happened at the end.

  • Something in the world. A game, a price, the news. There is a public answer, and our judge checks it against public sources.
  • A bet between us. Invite-only, any size. The people in it post the result and confirm it between themselves.
  • Something I’ll do. A call about yourself. You show proof by the deadline, and no proof means it didn’t happen.

What happens on the date

  1. 1Someone proposes the result, with proofUsually the author. On a bet between us, anyone in the call can do it. A link, a screenshot or a photo goes with it.
  2. 2A window opens to confirm or disputeThe result is not final yet. Anyone in the call can agree with it or say it is wrong and show why.
  3. 3The judge reads any disputeOur AI judge reads the call, the proof on both sides and the public record, then rules with its reasons and sources shown. An admin can override it.
  4. 4It settlesWhen the window closes with no dispute, or the dispute is ruled on, the call resolves. Everyone who picked a side is scored, and any money is paid out.

How long the window is

It depends on the kind of call, because the stakes and the speed are different.

A call with money on it48 hours
A free call other people picked a side on24 hours
A bet between us7 days

A free call that nobody else picked a side on settles on the author’s word, because there is nobody else it could affect.

What a dispute costs and why

On a call with money on it, disputing means putting down a small deposit: 5% of the pot, never less than $5 and never more than $50. If the judge agrees with you, you get it back. If not, you lose it. The deposit exists so that disputing is cheap when you are right and costs something when you are only stalling. On a free call there is no deposit, and what you are putting on the line is your own record.

If nobody proposes a result

  • A call about yourself defaults to NO. If there is no proof by the deadline, the system proposes that it didn’t happen. You can only ever take the YES side of your own personal call, so failing on purpose can never pay.
  • A call with a public answer can be proposed by the judge. When it is confident enough, it proposes the result itself, and that proposal still gets a full window like any other.

How the money is split

There is no house on the other side of your money. A stake goes on your side of the call. If your side wins, you get your stake back plus a share of the other side’s pot, less a 4% fee on the winnings only. If nobody took the other side, everyone is refunded in full and no fee is taken.

Getting in early, and being on the side fewer people picked, earns a bigger share of the pot.
